Good news for the Shed!
Three bits of good news have come to the Community Shed.
First, we have been chosen by the Co-op as one of their Local Community Projects to support, starting from 22nd October and going through to October 2024. Many groups apply for this but very few get chosen – a lot depends on the imagination and support of co-op staff locally. We are very grateful to them for seeing how worthwhile a Community Shed might be.
How it works: every time a Co-op member buys anything and uses their co-op membership card, a small donation goes into the co-op’s funding of community projects. Members choose the projects they want to support. At the end of the year the chosen local projects get a grant. We are likely to spend it on new tools. Information about the grant can be found here: https://co-operate.coop.co.uk/missions/LocalCommunityFund/
So, please support the co-op and use your membership card! Every bit helps.
Second, we have been asked to help with one or two projects in the area.
They are ‘in development’ and it gives us an opportunity to say…
If you hear of anything that might make a project for some hard working people, do let us know! We can add them to our growing list.
Third, Ken and Peter were asked to speak to the Aylsham and District Rotary Club about the Shed and what we are doing. The members were warm, full of good advice and helpful questions, and we learned a great deal about the importance of working with other projects locally.
Thank you, Aylsham Rotary for your wisdom and support.
Finally, members continue repairing things and working on individual projects.
But it’s not all work. We recently held our first monthly breakfast meeting at the Whistlestop Cafe, Bure Valley Railway.
The breakfast was convened by Derek, which allowed some useful conversations about how we run the Shed and the things we want to do. More are planned and the first one resulted in a very informative tour of the railway, the workshops and the rolling stock.
Best wishes,
Peter
